Bangkok, Thailand – June 11, 2025 – The ASEAN+3 Regional Conference on Integration Policy in Fostering an Inclusive Ageing Society through an Intergenerational Approach was held in Bangkok, addressing the significant demographic shift towards an increasingly older population across the region.
The conference aims to develop comprehensive policies that ensure social inclusion, economic security, and active ageing. A core focus is on integrating an intergenerational approach, deemed critical for fostering collaboration between younger and older generations, promoting knowledge transfer, and ensuring the inclusiveness of ageing societies. The main idea guiding the conference is to connect all parts of society to help older people thrive. This means making sure government departments, other organisations, and even families work together on ageing policies. The aim is to have national plans that include older people in areas like health, work, education, and social support.
Another big focus is on building stronger ties between generations. The conference is looking at how to create programs where younger and older people can learn from each other, share activities, and build a sense of community. This also includes making workplaces friendly for all ages and designing public spaces that encourage interaction between different groups. ACAI representatives engaged in group discussions to develop policy recommendations during the event.
Finally, the discussions are all about making sure everyone can take part and has fair access to services, no matter their age or background. This involves strengthening support systems like healthcare and pensions, helping older people use digital tools, and making sure places like transportation and housing are easy for older people to use. It also means involving older people directly in decisions that affect their lives.
