Fukuoka, Japan – A delegation from Rayong, Thailand, strengthened a promising new partnership during a formal courtesy visit to Fukuoka City facilitated by the ASEAN Centre for Active Ageing and Innovation (ACAI). The meeting laid the groundwork for future cooperation, with a sharp focus on sharing expertise to tackle the pressing demographic challenges of active ageing.

The delegation was received with a warm welcome from the Deputy Mayor of Fukuoka City, Ms.  Yasuko Arase. In her opening remarks, Deputy Mayor Arase highlighted the significance of reciprocal visits occurring in the same year, underscoring the swift advancement of their bilateral relationship. She emphasised Fukuoka City’s desire for a cooperative endeavour with Rayong and expressed her strong conviction that this collaboration will evolve into a long-term, trusted partnership.

Speaking on behalf of the Thai delegation, Mr. Kitti Kiatmontree conveyed the delegation’s sincere gratitude for the exceptional reception. He articulated Rayong’s high expectations for future technical and knowledge exchange with Fukuoka City, reinforcing the commitment to collaboration. Mr. Kitti concluded with an optimistic outlook, expressing confidence that the friendship and professional ties between the two cities are poised for significant and continued strengthening.

Both parties discussed the major challenges confronting active ageing populations today. The Rayong team specifically drew attention to critical public health issues, including the urgent need for fall prevention strategies among older persons and the growing global concern of dementia care.

Deputy Mayor Arase acknowledged that these challenges resonate deeply with Japan’s own national experience. She provided a clear, actionable directive to the visiting delegation, encouraging them to fully leverage the lessons and insights available during their upcoming structured site visits across Fukuoka, urging them to actively draw on Japan’s established expertise in managing these complex social issues. The visit sets a clear precedent for a practical, solutions-oriented international alliance dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for older persons.
