1.ASEAN Active Ageing Index (AAAI)

ASEAN Active Ageing Index (AAAI) is a tool to measure, monitor, and implement inclusive and actionable policies for active ageing across all ASEAN Member States. With advisory support from the National Institute of Population and Social Security Research in Japan, this framework is developed as an improved version of the existing global ageing indices.
The AAAI includes 43 indicators across six domains:
- Policy and Statistics,
- Income and Livelihood Security,
- Social Capital,
- Health and Quality of Life,
- Capacity and Enabling Environment, and
- COVID-19.
The AAAI uses a T-score standardisation method to generate domain-specific scores and will serve as a comprehensive, multidimensional framework designed to reflect the distinct socio-economic, cultural, and demographic landscapes of ASEAN Member States. It will be used to identify gaps, monitor progress, and inform responsive, evidence-based ageing policies at both national and regional levels.
2. Happy Retirement

ACAI is advancing its commitment to promoting active participation for older persons through the Happy Retirement initiative. This program will explore strategies for ensuring happiness after retirement and identify effective support policies and public mechanisms for ageing populations by conducting a rapid review and proposing research plans to support ASEAN policymaking. Three factors influencing the active ageing framework will be the outcomes, including Health Maintenance (Physical and Mental Health), Security (Environment and Finance), and Participation (Market Work and Social Activities).
